Two dedicated Aapda Mitra volunteers associated with the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), Shri Dalveer Singh Rana from Uttarkashi and Shri Sushil Kaintura from Dehradun, participated in the Republic Day Celebration (RDC) 2026 at Kartavya Path on 27 January 2026. The volunteers interacted with senior NDMA and NDRF officials, visited Rashtrapati Bhavan, and were honoured with certificates for their exemplary contribution to disaster response and relief operations. The Aapda Mitra tableau at Kartavya Path was also a major attraction.

The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Landslide Mitigation and Management Centre (ULMMC), participated in a five-day international technical training programme held from 2 to 6 February 2026 in Dehradun. The programme brought together experts and scientists from India and abroad to strengthen understanding of Himalayan landslide risks and promote disaster-resilient development. The training focused on slope stability, soil reinforcement, soil nailing, drainage solutions, satellite-based risk mapping, early warning systems and sustainable infrastructure, while strengthening technical capacity and inter-agency cooperation for landslide risk reduction.

The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) is strengthening the state’s disaster preparedness and early warning systems through the installation of Automated Weather Stations (AWS) and Doppler Radars across various districts. The initiative will enable real-time weather monitoring and timely alerts to reduce disaster risks and loss of life. USDMA is also expanding GIS mapping of emergency resources, establishing Disaster Dedicated Radio Networks (DDRN) across districts and developing Tehsil Emergency Operation Centres (TEOCs) to enhance local-level response, communication and coordination during disasters.

The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) reviewed preparations for large-scale mock drills scheduled across all 13 districts of Uttarakhand from 16 to 18 March 2026. The exercise will assess disaster preparedness at district and tehsil levels through simulated scenarios including earthquakes, forest fires, landslides, floods, cloudbursts, avalanches, industrial accidents, stampedes and drowning incidents. The initiative aims to strengthen local response capacity, inter-agency coordination, communication systems and emergency preparedness, supporting USDMA’s Zero Death Goal.

The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) organized an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Workshop on 24 March 2026 to promote the responsible and effective use of modern technology in disaster management. The workshop focused on AI applications in early warning, real-time data analysis, risk mapping, resource management, satellite and drone data analysis, public communication and emergency response. Officials and personnel were also introduced to leading AI platforms and practical applications for improving preparedness, decision-making and disaster response.

The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), conducted a comprehensive Tabletop Exercise on 8 April 2026 to strengthen disaster preparedness and response mechanisms for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra. The exercise focused on risk assessment, impact-based forecasting, real-time crowd and traffic monitoring, emergency response, healthcare preparedness, helicopter safety, communication systems and inter-agency coordination to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage.

The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), conducted a large-scale mock drill across seven districts of Garhwal Division on 10 April 2026 to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure a safe, secure and smooth Char Dham Yatra. The exercise tested emergency response, inter-agency coordination, evacuation, medical assistance, crowd management, communication systems and rescue preparedness through multiple simulated disaster scenarios.

USDMA successfully tested DTH-based disaster alerts in Uttarakhand, enabling timely warnings to reach citizens directly through television screens. The initiative strengthens the state’s early warning system for flash floods, landslides, heavy rainfall, lightning and other weather-related hazards.

USDMA reviewed Uttarakhand’s monsoon preparedness, focusing on a zero-casualty approach, 24×7 readiness, inter-departmental coordination, early safety measures, emergency response, and protection of vulnerable and disaster-prone areas across the state.

USDMA, in collaboration with NIDM, commenced a two-day national training programme on 18 June 2026, focusing on monsoon preparedness, disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, flood management, emerging technologies and community-based disaster response.
